BlackBerry Gold XXL Summer ‘26

3/26 - Popping five, hoping for two or three ladies. This vial of free seeds came with one of my orders - stuffed to the top! Check out the pic.

A little about my grow style, which I am still developing as I have been growing less than a year. I grow indoors only. I started out mixing salt based nutrients for my first grow.  I have since moved toward the organic side for simplicity, cost, ease, etc. I am not against the salts, I say do your research and do what works for you.

Will be growing these in a veg cabinet for now, will move to the grow room probably around six weeks, if they don’t outgrow it sooner. I will start seedlings in a small pot (after germinated) in coco amended with perlite and worm castings, After about 14 days or so, I will up-pot to 1 gallon and utilize a home made self wicking system and veg for about four weeks. This will be amended with worm castings, organic 3-4-4 or 4-4-4 (depending what I have), diatomaceous earth  for silica, perlite, and compost.

My water comes out of the tap about .2 ec or 113 ppm slightly elevated in calcium and magnesium, which helps with the coco. I use Real Growers Recharge per label once a week, so I have gotten away from checking my ph, unless I am cloning or feeding clone seedlings.

Here is the tricky part. When I harvest my current grow, I will be building a bed in my grow room instead of 5 gal fabric pots. I think I want to sex them before transplanting into the big bed, but I have only grown feminized plants so far and I don’t yet know how to sex them.

I will try to keep the important things listed but if there are any questions or comments, let me know.

Extra photos of my overcrowded setup.

Five turns into six…

I am not sure what day I checked on my seeds, but four of five had sprouted and had tap roots from 1/2”-1” long.  One seed looked like it had cracked but I didn’t see the tap root coming yet. I went ahead and planted all five, but just to be safe, I put another in the paper towel to germinate. After 24 hours, that sixth seed germinated, had a tap root 3/4” long, and I put it in the pot, this morning. It popped up and shucked its shell while I was at work. None of these are yet a week old, and obviously the one sleeper did pop and caught up. 100% germination.

Week 1 - all six plants have their first set of leaves. Just making sure they stay moist but not saturated. Sometimes I try to water from one side for a couple of days, then the other side for a couple. I don’t know if it works any better, but I am trying to tease the roots to search for the water. After about four days I will bottom water for the same reason.

Week 2 - one of these is not very happy. They are a little leggy, and I set them outside for a couple of days to get some sun, but the wind beat them up pretty good. I had to support two of them, and I think one of those has a broken stem, but I think it will be ok if it makes it a few more days. I feel like these plants can take quite a bit of abuse after the first week or two, when the roots are more established and the plants are a little less likely to dampen off.

I want them to grow another week or so in these small containers to help develop the roots before I replant them. I will bury them deeper when I do, right up to the cotyledons, so I am not too worried about them stretching out right now.

They look good and will recover I am sure.

Well, the one with the broken stem didn’t make it.  I don’t lose many, but when I do it’s because I mistreated a seedling or sprout, lol.

I don’t normally give them any nutrients that aren’t already in my medium until I up-pot to 1 gal in about a week, but just look at these roots.  These plants are only 17 days old, but I think they will handle this just fine. I am bottom watering with a tea that I made by bubbling some worm castings, 3-4-4, bone meal, molasses, and a pinch of Recharge overnight with air stones. It’s not very strong, about 345 ppm. There are a couple of Lantana that I cloned for momma in there sharing the tub.

Week 3 - I have repotted into 1- gallon containers with some nylon line used for wicking to provide as much water as these plants want during the vegetation stage. They should be on autopilot for the next 3-4 weeks, I will stay on top of IPM and give them compost tea or Recharge once a week.

I have included a pic of a planter that I have mocked up for the grow room. I am going to try a living soil bed in lieu of the 5-gallon fabric pots.
