How to Grow Monster Cannabis Plants in a Dry-land Hügelkultur

With last years grow (2025) of a photo type of free seed order….which got surprisingly big (about 8-9 feet tall) I made it my mission this year to see just how big I can get cannabis plants to grow at Stony Oasis farms.

Plenty of room for the cannabis plants roots.

And, with that in mind I wanted to pull out all the tricks I have to accomplish that. I wrote an article on the blog of Just Cannabis Seed covering growing monster plants…here is a link to that article…How to Grow a 10 lb Cannabis Plant: A Comprehensive Guide.

The main ‘trick’ I use when wanting to grow massive cannabis plants is starting the indoors early…months before putting them outside. And when you do this it behooves you to start them in a pot that will not leave a completely root bound 2 month old plant to try to transplant. So what pot is best?

You can see the pots I use in the image on the right. These are about 2 feet tall, and give the plants roots plenty of room to grow, but are still light and easy to carry around. If you want to grow monster plants with a huge harvest…pay attention because this little technique is a game changer!

Dry-land Hugelulktur…Perfect for Growing Huge Cannabis Plants

Then, I figured why not double down and not only grow 2 month old plants to start with…but also create a dryland hugelkultur bed to grow them in. Here is an article explaining how that works….How to Grow 10lb Cannabis Plants Off-Grid: The 2026 Super Soil & Dryland Hugelkultur Guide.

Then the double down part….not only plant them in the hugelkultur, with all the bio-char, and woody debris, but fill the hugelkultur with super soil. here is an article that goes into the super soil in more detail…Building a Dryland Hugelkultur: Water-Wise Gardening for Arid Climates.

Conclusion

Do I think I can grow a 10 lb cannabis plant there?

The short answer is no, I do not think I will have the season I need even after putting out plants that are a full 2 months old.

And, I am going to seed these plants, which makes them put their energy into producing seed, rather then piling on more unfertilized flowers. So the buds on these plants will simply not attain the size they would if grown for sensimilla.

I plan to offer the seeds produced in a budget large seed pack. So watch for that.

How big do you think I can get these plants to get? Give me you estimation in a comment, I would love to hear from you.
